    Advanced Departmental Electives

These advanced electives are designed to deepen students' expertise in specialized areas within the design domain. Each course is offered based on faculty availability and student demand, ensuring high-quality instruction and practical relevance.

    • Design for Accessibility: This course explores inclusive design principles aimed at creating products and services accessible to all users, regardless of ability or age. Students learn about assistive technologies, universal design standards, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
    • Product Lifecycle Management: Students gain insights into managing product development from concept to market launch, including resource planning, risk assessment, and lifecycle cost analysis.
    • Human Factors in Interface Design: This course delves into cognitive psychology, user behavior, and interface usability. It equips students with the knowledge to design interfaces that align with human mental models and expectations.
    • Designing for Social Impact: Through case studies and project-based learning, students learn how to apply design thinking to address social challenges such as poverty, education, and healthcare delivery.
    • Mobile App Interaction Design: Students develop skills in designing intuitive mobile user experiences using industry-standard tools like Sketch, Figma, and Adobe XD. The course covers responsive design, navigation patterns, and interaction prototyping.
    • Sustainable Materials & Processes: This elective introduces students to eco-friendly materials and manufacturing techniques that reduce environmental impact without compromising product quality or functionality.
    • Digital Fabrication Lab: Hands-on exploration of digital fabrication technologies including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and electronic prototyping. Students learn to translate digital designs into physical prototypes.
    • UX Research Methods: A comprehensive study of qualitative and quantitative research methods used in UX design. Students learn to conduct user interviews, surveys, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions.
    • Design Strategy & Innovation: This course teaches strategic frameworks for innovation management and design thinking within business contexts. It includes topics like design thinking, lean startup methodology, and intellectual property protection.
    • Service System Design: Students explore how to design service experiences that meet customer needs efficiently and effectively. The course covers service architecture, journey mapping, and process optimization techniques.

    Project-Based Learning Philosophy

The department's philosophy on project-based learning centers around experiential education where students actively engage in solving real-world problems. Projects are structured to mirror industry practices, with clear milestones, deliverables, and evaluation criteria.

Mini-projects are assigned during semesters 2 through 6, allowing students to apply newly acquired knowledge in practical settings. These projects typically last 4-6 weeks and are evaluated based on creativity, technical execution, user feedback, and presentation quality.

The final-year thesis or capstone project represents the culmination of a student's academic journey. Students select a topic aligned with their interests and career aspirations, working under the guidance of a faculty mentor. The project involves extensive research, prototyping, testing, and documentation, culminating in a public presentation to faculty and industry experts.

Faculty mentors are selected based on their expertise and availability, ensuring that each student receives personalized attention throughout their project journey. Regular meetings, milestone reviews, and peer feedback sessions facilitate continuous improvement and growth.
