    Admissions

    Admissions Process

The admission process for the Mechanical Engineering program at Govt Polytechnic Khatima is designed to be fair, transparent, and accessible to all eligible candidates. It involves several stages that ensure merit-based selection while maintaining inclusivity.

    Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet specific academic requirements to be considered for admission:

    • Qualifying Exam: Candidates must have passed 12th-grade examination or equivalent from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
    • Minimum Percentage: A minimum aggregate score of 60% is required for General category candidates. For reserved categories (EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST), the minimum percentage is reduced to 55%, 50%, 45%, and 40% respectively.
    • Subject Combination: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are mandatory subjects in the qualifying examination.
    • Age Limit: Applicants must be between 17 and 25 years old. For PwD candidates, the upper age limit is extended to 30 years.

    Application Process

The application process begins with registration on the official website of the respective state or central authority responsible for conducting admissions. Candidates must fill out an online form containing personal details, academic history, and preferences.

After completing the form, applicants must upload necessary documents including photograph, signature, mark sheets, and identity proof. The application fee varies based on category – General candidates pay Rs. 1000, while SC/ST/PwD candidates pay Rs. 500.

    Entrance Examination

An entrance examination is conducted to assess candidates' understanding of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and is typically held in April or May each year.

The question paper includes topics from the 11th and 12th-grade curriculum, with emphasis on problem-solving and analytical thinking skills. Candidates are evaluated based on correct answers and negative marking policies to ensure fair assessment.

    Counseling and Seat Allocation

Shortlisted candidates proceed to counseling sessions where they can choose their preferred institution and branch based on merit and availability of seats. The seat allocation is done according to category-wise quotas and rank-based merit lists.

During counseling, candidates must verify documents such as 12th-grade mark sheets, caste certificates (if applicable), income certificates, and other required paperwork. Seat acceptance is confirmed after successful verification and payment of fees.

    Choice Filling Strategy

Effective choice filling strategy plays a crucial role in securing admission to preferred institutions. Candidates should analyze previous years' rank lists and cutoffs to make informed decisions.

It's advisable to include a mix of top-tier, mid-tier, and safety institutions in the choices. Prioritizing less competitive but quality colleges increases chances of securing admission even if higher-ranked options are unavailable.

    Document Verification

Upon successful counseling, candidates must undergo document verification at designated centers. All documents must be original or attested copies as per institutional guidelines. Failure to submit required documents may lead to disqualification.

    Seat Acceptance and Fee Payment

After document verification, candidates must accept their allocated seats by paying the required fees within the specified deadline. Late payments attract additional charges that may affect admission status.

    Admission Confirmation

Once fees are paid and documents verified, candidates receive an admission confirmation letter which serves as proof of enrollment in the program. This letter includes details about joining dates, academic calendar, and institutional rules.
