    Detailed Departmental Elective Courses

Advanced departmental electives are offered to provide students with in-depth knowledge and specialization opportunities:

    • Neurological Disorders Management: This course explores the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injuries. Students learn advanced assessment techniques and therapeutic interventions tailored to each condition.
    • Manual Therapy Techniques: A comprehensive study of manual therapy modalities including mobilization, manipulation, soft tissue work, and joint articulation techniques. Emphasis is placed on safe application under clinical supervision.
    • Geriatric Rehabilitation: Focuses on the unique needs of elderly patients, covering age-related changes in physiology, common geriatric syndromes, and evidence-based treatment approaches for mobility issues, falls prevention, and cognitive decline.
    • Pediatric Physiotherapy: Covers developmental milestones, growth patterns, congenital anomalies, and disorders affecting children. Students gain practical experience in assessing and treating developmental delays, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy.
    • Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation: Addresses the impact of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases on patient function. Topics include exercise physiology, pulmonary rehabilitation protocols, and management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
    • Orthopedic Physiotherapy: Delivers detailed instruction on musculoskeletal injuries, surgical outcomes, post-operative care, and return-to-function protocols for various orthopedic conditions including joint replacements.
    • Hydrotherapy and Aquatic Therapy: Explores the therapeutic use of water in rehabilitation settings. Students learn aquatic exercise programming, hydrostatic pressure effects, and specialized equipment used in aquatic therapy.
    • Sports Injury Management: A specialized course focusing on injuries common in athletes across different sports disciplines. It covers biomechanical analysis, injury prevention strategies, and rehabilitation protocols tailored to sports performance.
    • Research & Development in Physiotherapy: Provides students with an understanding of research design, data collection methods, statistical analysis, and publication practices essential for contributing to scientific knowledge.
    • Evidence-Based Practice: Teaches students how to critically evaluate literature, apply research findings to clinical practice, and make informed decisions regarding patient care using current evidence.

    Project-Based Learning Philosophy

Our department strongly believes in experiential learning through project-based education. The curriculum integrates both mini-projects and a final-year capstone thesis to ensure students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills:

    • Mini Projects (Semester 7): Students work in teams on selected real-world problems under faculty supervision. These projects typically involve community health initiatives, case studies, or research proposals aimed at improving patient outcomes.
    • Final-Year Thesis/Capstone Project (Semester 8): Each student selects a topic relevant to their area of interest within physiotherapy. The project involves extensive literature review, data collection, analysis, and presentation of findings. Faculty mentors guide students throughout the process.

The evaluation criteria for these projects include originality, depth of research, clarity of presentation, adherence to academic standards, and potential impact on practice or policy.
