    Curriculum

    Curriculum Overview

The Biotechnology program at Nirma University Ahmedabad is meticulously structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of biological systems and their applications in industry. The curriculum spans eight semesters, integrating foundational sciences with advanced biotechnological principles.

The first year establishes a strong scientific foundation through courses such as Introduction to Biology, Mathematics I, Physics, Chemistry, Cell Biology, and Mathematics II. These courses are designed to build analytical skills and prepare students for more complex topics in subsequent years.

During the second year, students transition into core biotechnology subjects including Genetics, Microbiology, Statistics and Probability, Organic Chemistry, and Biophysics. Laboratory sessions reinforce theoretical concepts through hands-on experimentation, enabling students to understand cellular processes and molecular mechanisms.

The third year introduces specialized areas such as Molecular Biology, Immunology, Protein Chemistry, and Biotechnology Principles. Students also explore regulatory affairs, quality control, and business aspects of biotechnology. Advanced electives allow students to specialize in emerging fields like Synthetic Biology, Nanobiotechnology, or Computational Biology.

In the final two years, students engage in capstone projects under faculty supervision. The third year includes Capstone Project I, Research Methodology, and specialized electives tailored to individual interests. The fourth year focuses on Capstone Project II, where students complete their research work and present findings.
