    Advanced Departmental Electives

Students in their third and fourth years can choose from a wide range of advanced departmental electives to specialize in areas of interest:

    • Nursing Informatics: This elective explores how technology can be used to improve patient outcomes, manage healthcare data, and streamline clinical workflows. Students learn about electronic health records, telehealth systems, and data analysis tools.
    • Geriatric Nursing: Focuses on the unique needs of older adults, including age-related diseases, cognitive impairments, and end-of-life care. Students engage in case studies and fieldwork with elderly populations.
    • Mental Health Nursing: Covers psychiatric assessment, therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and recovery-oriented care. Students learn to manage patients with mental health disorders effectively.
    • Emergency and Critical Care Nursing: Prepares students for managing acute medical emergencies and critical care situations. Topics include trauma management, life support techniques, and ICU protocols.
    • Community Health Nursing: Emphasizes community-based healthcare interventions, health promotion strategies, and public health programs designed to improve population health outcomes.
    • Public Health Nursing: Addresses the role of nurses in policy development, health education, and community health initiatives. Students learn how to design and implement public health programs at local and national levels.
    • Rehabilitation Nursing: Focuses on supporting individuals with disabilities or chronic conditions through rehabilitation techniques and adaptive strategies. Students gain hands-on experience in physical therapy and assistive devices.
    • Nursing Ethics: Explores ethical dilemmas encountered in clinical practice, including end-of-life decisions, informed consent, and confidentiality issues. Students engage in ethical reasoning and case analysis.
    • Maternal and Child Health Nursing: Covers prenatal care, labor management, neonatal care, and pediatric health issues. Students participate in simulated births and infant care practices.
    • Nursing Research: Introduces students to research methodologies in nursing science, including data collection, statistical analysis, and evidence-based practice implementation.

    Project-Based Learning Philosophy

The department strongly believes in project-based learning as a means of enhancing student engagement and deepening understanding. Projects are assigned at various stages throughout the program to encourage critical thinking and application of knowledge.

Mini-projects, typically undertaken during the second and third years, involve small groups of students working on specific healthcare challenges or research questions. These projects require students to conduct literature reviews, design interventions, and present findings to faculty and peers.

The final-year capstone project or thesis is a significant undertaking that allows students to explore a topic of personal interest within the nursing field. Students work closely with faculty mentors to develop a research proposal, collect data, analyze results, and produce a comprehensive report.

    Evaluation criteria for projects include:

    • Research methodology and design
    • Data collection and analysis skills
    • Clarity of presentation and communication
    • Adherence to ethical standards
    • Contribution to nursing knowledge or practice

The selection process for projects involves students submitting proposals, which are reviewed by faculty members. Students may also be matched with faculty mentors based on their interests and expertise areas.
